Filter lane traffic lights explained

September 2, 2017

You might wonder why we have done a blog post on something quite simple! However that seems to be the issue, not many students realise the rules of filter lane traffic lights. Thus resulting in students making mistakes even when they have been pointed out prior to their test!

Below is an excerpt from 'a class driving':

"Remember, every colour except green means stop, only proceed when it turns green. Make sure you know the sequence, see diagram opposite. Filter lights - When turning right at a crossroads/T-junction, if there is a filter light, you may proceed forward into the junction when the main light turns green."

Many students fail to realise that you can in fact head into the main junction if the main light turns green even if the green filter lane light hasn't yet come on. Many filter lanes are fitted with pressure pads that only activate once a vehicle has come into contact.

If you wait at the white line and the main green light has come on this can result in a serious on test resulting in an overall fail!

Don't make this mistake! Get yourself clued up and read the highway code!
